In a welcome move for milk producers, the Pune District Milk Producers Association (Katraj Dairy) has announced to give ₹2 per liter in milk prices, effective immediately. The decision was made at the 65th Annual General Meeting of the association, chaired by President Bhagwan Pasalkar.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of milk-producing farmers affiliated with the dairy. According to the association’s financial report, presented during the meeting, Katraj Dairy recorded a net profit of ₹3.01 crores for the financial year 2023-24.
Initially, the association had proposed a ₹1 per liter milk rate differential, but representatives of milk-producing organizations demanded a higher differential of ₹3. After deliberations, the board approved the ₹2 per liter hike, which will require an additional outlay of ₹13-14 crores.
“We are committed to supporting our milk producers and ensuring they receive the best possible prices for their produce,” said President Pasalkar. “We urge farmers to cooperate with us to maintain the quality and quantity of milk production.”
Other key decisions made during the meeting include the construction of new projects with modern machinery, building a new administrative office, cancellation of membership of defaulting milk supply organizations, and appointment of auditors.
The meeting also recognized outstanding milk-producing organizations, with 16 organizations receiving awards for their performance and 11 organizations honored for highest animal feed sales.
Katraj Dairy’s decision is seen as a positive step for the dairy industry and is expected to boost farmer earnings. The association’s efforts to support milk producers have been consistent, and this move reinforces its commitment to their welfare.
The meeting was attended by ex-directors, representatives of milk-producing organizations, farmers, and officials. Managing Director Manoj Limaye welcomed the attendees, while Vice President Bhau Devade expressed gratitude.
